About W868
WorkShop 868 Band is a versatile and dynamic musical group from Trinidad and Tobago, rooted in passion, discipline, and a deep appreciation for musical diversity. The band was founded in 2008 by musician and mentor Bobby Mohan, whose vision was to create a space dedicated to developing talent and musical excellence.
Originally established as a training initiative, “WorkShop 868” served as a platform for Bobby Mohan to mentor and nurture those closest to him in the art of music. Through this workshop, he introduced his students to a wide range of genres including R&B, jazz, reggae, rock, and more. His goal was to shape well-rounded musicians—individuals who could confidently adapt to any stage, audience, or musical environment.
In its early stages, the group focused heavily on R&B, jazz, and pop, building a strong technical and performance foundation. As their experience and exposure grew, the band began to evolve, incorporating more local Caribbean genres into their repertoire. This transition allowed them to connect more deeply with audiences while maintaining their signature versatility.
As the musicians developed both individually and collectively, the workshop naturally transformed into a performing band. WorkShop 868 Band quickly gained recognition for its tight arrangements, musical range, and engaging stage presence. Their ability to deliver a fully diverse set—seamlessly blending international and local sounds—set them apart in the live music scene.
Over the years, the band has experienced many transitions, with members coming and going as the journey unfolded. Despite these changes, the persistence and determination at the core of WorkShop 868 never wavered. Under the steady leadership of Bobby Mohan, the band has consistently maintained its identity, ensuring that its sound, values, and musical standard remain intact. For over three decades, Bobby Mohan has been driven by a unique musical vision—fusing the sounds of Chutney and Rock.
Inspired by his love for guitars and rock music, combined with a deep connection to his local culture and upbringing, he has continuously explored ways to blend these genres into a powerful, high-energy sound he defines as “Chutney Rock.”
While this concept has been in development for many years, WorkShop 868 Band has now begun introducing this fusion to audiences, receiving strong support and appreciation from fans.
Given the band’s versatility and diverse musical approach, WorkShop 868 Band has conceptualized and produced a signature concert experience titled “Colours of Music.” This production showcases the full spectrum of the band’s sound, featuring not only the core members but also a range of talented artistes affiliated with the movement. Collectively known as the “WorkShop 868 Galaxy,” this extended family of performers reflects the band’s belief that every individual is a star in their own right, coming together to create a powerful and unforgettable musical journey.
Now more focused and stronger than ever, WorkShop 868 Band continues to push forward with clarity, energy, and purpose. The current team is a well-disciplined and passionate group of musicians and singers, always ready to deliver at any event—even at a moment’s notice.
